Focused Practice-the effect

“Focused practice has profound effects on, and can influence virtually every aspect of, the human body, such as muscles, nerve systems, heart and circulatory system, and the brain.”-The Cambridge Handbook of Expertise and Expert Performance
The 10,000 hour rule of expertise is an average. For some people it may take many more hours and some it may take less to develop a level of expertise in their particular field. These hours must be deliberate practice not just doing the physical repetition. There is a difference between hitting balls mindlessly on the tennis court and trying to improve every shot. When you are mentally taxing your capabilities, your body will respond so that over time you improve your skill set.
