The Myth of Coaching

The common thought exists that to coach a sport at a high level i.e. collegiate or pros you must have participated in the sport at a high level. However, if this was the case across the board, how have people like Colm O’Connell, Stephen Francis, Mike Leach, and Dick Gould been able to achieve incredible success as pro and collegiate coaches with either no athletic background (in the case of the first two) and no high level participation in their respective sport? The common held belief tells us this can’t happen, but it has time and again with these coaches coaching the best athletes in the world! If you study the sport and figure out a feasible way to accomplish greatness, you will be successful as a coach and assist your athletes in reaching their potential!
